The Entz is completely at home in the city.
{ A2B ENTZ }
The LCD for the Entz is very clean,
unobtrusive and easy to read, providing
speed, power output, battery life, trip
distance and odometer.
There are two modes for the NuVinci
system. One is for constant power, so
you twist the grip’s shift-style controller
and set it where you want it, and it will
deliver power to make it so you apply
the same amount of torque all the time,
and the bike makes up the difference. In
the optional cadence mode, the power
and gear ratios are adjusted to allow you
to keep a constant cadence. In other
words, set it and forget it.
THE RIDE
We put in some miles over a variety
of hilly and flat areas, in traffic and on
bike paths. For being a commuter bike, it
rides more like a comfort bike. It was fine
on a 40-mile ride. The 24-inch wheels
make it very responsive to rider input,
and 2.35-inch Kenda Krusader tires
make it feel planted. Power is applied
quietly through the 250-watt Continental
mid-drive, and the rear hub quietly
adjusts internally. We were actually
struck by how quiet the whole thing is.
The bike provides a comfortable
and somewhat quick ride anywhere.
Assist maxes out at 15. 5 mph ( 25 km/h),
which is plenty for most riders. A belt
instead of a chain also adds to the
quiet of the ride, and it’s self-cleaning
for minimal maintenance. The NuVinci
drive hub is completely sealed, making
it also maintenance-free. Magura MT- 4
disc brakes provide more than enough
stopping power.
EASY COME, EASY GO
The step-through frame is so low that
ingress and egress are easy. The battery
rack still serves as a rack, too, so you
can strap a few light things to it. The
Suntour fork has 63mm of travel, just
enough to soak up small bumps and go
light on your hands and wrists.
Mounted above the fender, the front
light is sufficiently bright and mounted
and is powered by the battery. The rear
light is mounted on the battery itself.
If you need to remove the rear wheel,
