FOCUS BIKES USA
Focus e-bikes (and sister e-bike
brand Kalkhoff) are designed and built
in the Derby Cycle factory in Germany.
Derby is a huge company, so it had
the strength to have its own mid-drive
developed, called the Impulse 2.0. But
in addition to the standard version, it
has speed, off-road and off-road speed
iterations. In the U.S., Focus e-bikes
have three basic platforms: the Aventura
Impulse trekking bike in Impulse 2.0 and
Impulse 2.0 Speed, Jarifa Impulse 27R
3.0 hardtail for sport road or off-road,
and the Thron Impulse 27R 3.0 and
Thron Impulse 27R Speed.
Models designated with “Speed”
offer pedal assist to 28 mph, and all others assist to 20 mph. All Focus e-bikes
come with a mile-busting 17 Ah battery
that allows the company to claim stunning range figures. Focus is a premium
brand with high-level components, so
the least expensive Aventura is $3799
and the Thron Impulse 27R Speed runs
for $6599. For more information or to

Compared to a Bosch-powered bike,
the Focus Thron Impulse 27R Speed
claims more torque, greater speed and
a battery nearly 50 percent larger.
Trekking bikes are designed to do it all, from commuting to sport
and touring. The Aventura comes in 20- and 28-mph versions.
